ROHACELL® IG/ IG-F: The Standard Product

The “IG” in ROHACELL^® IG stands for “industrial grade.” It’s the standard product in our range of rigid foams and is suitable for a wide variety of applications.

It’s the structural foam of choice for sports applications such as bicycle wheels, cross-country skis, and hockey sticks, and it’s also used in industrial applications like automotive and watercraft. ROHACELL^® IG is a common core material in x-ray and CT- table tops and the rotor blades of wind energy plants; not to mention tool-making in the wind energy industry.

There’s also one foam grade that comes with a finer cell structure. Because of the smaller size of its cells, ROHACELL^® IG-F takes up less resin at the surface, where the cells have been cut open. At any rate, all of the foam’s mechanical and thermal properties remain unchanged.

ROHACELL^® IG and ROHACELL^® IG-F are particularly suitable for prepreg processing, but can also be used in, for example, resin infusion and RTM processes up to temperatures of 130°C and pressures of 0.3 MPa.
