The excellent mechanical and thermal properties of the lightweight sandwich core material ROHACELL® are used for the realization of exclusive sport cars e.g. Zonda or Ferrari as well as for Formula 1 racing cars. Because the closed-cell foam is easy to machine, even the most complex component shapes can be manufactured economically in small series. |

The Holden HSV Monaro super sports car with a state-of-the-art sandwich bonnet
The new bonnet design was realized by means of the Quickstep rapid curing method, using carbon epoxy skins and a core of ROHACELL® IG. The Quickstep technology allows extremely short cycle times and the realization of a high quality surface finish. The introduction of the sandwich concept and the use of ROHACELL® 51 IG made it possible to achieve a total weight of only 5,2 kg. Due to the high temperature capabilities the bonnet can be introduced to online painting. |
