Inspec Fibres Company Profile
As part of the multinational corporation Degussa Inspec Fibres GmbH is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fibres for high temperature filtration applications.
At the location Lenzing in Austria high performance polyimide products with the name P84 are manufactured. Inspec Fibres is the world’s only commercial producer of thermostable and non-flammable polyimide fibres. The core business is environmental protection, especially the filtering of gases emitted by coal fired boilers, municipal waste incinerators and cement plants.
Besides the P84 fibre produced in Austria, PPS PROCON fibres manufactured by the Japanese company Toyobo and specialty acrylic DOLANIT fibres from Dolan GmbH are exclusively distributed by Inspec Fibres and sold into the same application .
P84 fibres are also used in a variety of other applications such as protective clothing for fire fighters, for thermal insulation and for sealing applications in braided packing or oil filter cartridges in the automobile industry.
Additionally Inspec Fibres produces a polymer solution which is applied for coatings in the semi conductor industry and which is converted into a polyimide powder used for the manufacturing of moulded parts or as filler for PTFE to improve tribological properties.
The development of this special polyimide fibre started in the early eighties in the central R&D department of Lenzing AG, Austria. In 1991 the project was formed to the business unit HPP and sold to the British Inspec Group Plc in 1996.
After the entire Group has been taken over by Laporte Plc. in1998, Laporte itself was acquired by Degussa in 2001.
Apart from manufacturing fibres serving the environmental protection, Inspec Fibres takes care to make production as environmental compatible as possible.
Therefore a quality and environmental management system has been introduced which is certified conforming to ISO 9001 and 14.001 by external auditors.
It is Inspec Fibres definite policy to ensure active, preventive environmental protection in all operations.
